-------> Where do you shoot?

For the most comfort, we can shoot at your house...but if discretion is necessary we can shoot at my location in Daly City. I've converted my apartment studio into a photo studio, where I've done over 300 shoots. Several couches, beds, and backdrops are all at my disposal there, and I know how the light falls thru the windows at certain times of the day. I previously shot out of a studio but decided it was unnecessary...although the third option is to rent an actual photo studio if desired. Additional fees may apply. For the more adventurous, we can even shoot in a local hotel. Depending on distance to your location, a travel fee may apply as well.

-------> Do you bring additional light for the photo shoot?

It depends on the look you want. I break lingerie photography into two styles - boudoir and glamour. Boudoir I will define as more natural light and minimal extra lighting. Softer looking, it is the easiest way to shoot and more forgiving as the blur of the body is more evident. It is probably the more common look out there in boudoir photographs. It is considered more basic lighting. Glamour I will define as more flash, similar to most any magazine out there. It is harsher, and not as forgiving, since more of the body is more in focus. It is admittedly the more fun approach for me, as I get to utilize as many lights as necessary and I get to utilize trade secrets I learned while studying with a Playboy photographer. One thing to note is the glamour style requires more patience and time, since I use as many as 8 lights! It is considered very advanced lighting.

There is no correct answer as to "which one is better?" it simply is up to personal choice.

-------> Do you retouch photos?

Most every image on this site has been retouched, but hopefully you couldn't tell!!! I am a fan of subtle changes to enhance, not change, your appearance. I can do basic touch ups (remove blemishes, smooth skin, whiten teeth/eyes, adjust hue/saturation) that still make you look like you...not plastic or airbrushed to death like is common unfortunately in most magazines. Remember, your significant other loves you for you...and I'm sure you want to be able to recognize yourself in the photos also! Please see my Retouching tab for samples.

-------> Do you provide wardrobe/props?

Because there are so many different wardrobe possibilities, it would be very expensive for me to keep an extensive wardrobe on hand...I do, however, provide some props and accessories that you are welcome to use. Additionally, I send out a Checklist to each model to spark ideas for accessories to bring.

-------> How long does it take to view my photos?

Depending on the shoot length, most images are done within 1-2 weeks. After a shoot, you will come in for the premiere and we can go over your images and any questions, specific retouches, and print orders. Photos to send to you normally take between 1-2 weeks for the printing company to process, ship, and deliver. If larger prints and albums are purchased, it takes up to 2 weeks for processing...so plan accordingly. Rush options are available for an additional fee.

-------> Can I bring a friend along?

Yes, of course! Anything to help lighten the mood and calm those nerves is recommended...and perhaps that friend can have their own shoot! Discounted rates apply for multiple shoots! On the other hand, for some, doing this solo brings out the inner vixen even more! And being distracted during a shoot doesn't make for attractive photos. So think carefully :)

This rule is limited to one person, and no kids please. If you are bringing a guest, please let me know ahead of time out of courtesy.

-------> Can you hide my identity?

Yes, a Client's privacy is of utmost importance, especially given such a sensitive style. I only show the identities of those who give me written permission, which I am extremely grateful for. Before we shoot, I will provide you with a Privacy Policy that outlines the way I can or cannot use your images.

-------> I've never modeled before...is this for me?

YES! Boudoir photography is for anyone, regardless of experience level. I've shot men and women from 21-65 and they've all been different sizes. I pride myself in being able to make you feel relaxed and comfortable that you then unconsciously act like a supermodel in front of the camera. Remember, its all about HAVING FUN!

My greatest strength is not my photography, but rather making people comfortable. Comfort and laughter are my secrets to revealing the natural beauty that you see in my photos. I'm sorta king of corny jokes too..just saying...

I don't expect you to know what to do and am more than happy and capable of directing (I can't seem NOT to talk during a shoot!) Additionally, I provide 15-20 minutes extra to go over some tips I've learned that help you look fabulous. So whether you are a first timer (as 90% of my Clients are) or a seasoned pro, you will get the personalized Boudoirs by Ian modeling tutorial  :)

During the session, I allow you to explore posing options on your own, so your personality comes out naturally... but I will GLADLY suggest as we go along.

The only thing you have to worry about it is asking, "Why didn't I get a shoot done sooner!!!"

What People Are Saying

Working with Ian was a very positive experience. Being 39 and not photogenic at all, Ian made me feel comfortable. We had fun during the shoot; he was awesome to work with. I am glad when I finally decided to take Boudoir pictures I found Ian to work with. I would defiantly recommend Ian for any photo shoot. He is professional and patient…
It was an experience i will never forget....
